From our inspiration board... 01/30/2012
These pictures are among the images and texts on our inspiration board for Tandem Biking and Other Dangerous Pastimes for Two. Come to the show to see how they're reflected in the final piece! Add Comment Less than one week to go! 01/28/2012
Tandem Biking and Other Dangerous Pastimes for Two opens in six days! It's about reliability, being stuck in a small space together for too long, geometry, and Grandma's cinnamon peaches. It's about monuments and solitude and guess what I'm feeling. It's about that thing that you can only figure out after you've known someone a really, really long time. And we want to share it with you! Buy tickets (including student rush, now on sale for only $10) by calling the Annenberg Center box office at 215-898-3900 or visiting http://www.annenbergcenter.org/tickets/?id=182.See you there! Like planking? The city of Philadelphia? Quirky little dance steps? French music? Then check out this video we made for one of our supporters: Collaborators extraordinaire 10/26/2011
Good news! Alex Torra - Pig Iron Theatre Company Associate Artist, stylish gentleman, friend - has signed on to be our Collaborating Director for Project Cone. He's an intelligent, sharp-eyed director who has an knack for excellent theatrical framing and a penchant for big ideas expressed in unusual ways. We are very excited to be working with him. And more good news! Rosie Langabeer, who composed the music for our Fringe Festival performance, is continuing to collaborate with us and will compose music for our Annenberg show in February. She will probably play live on stage with us for those performances - a first for us. A sold-out run in the Philly Fringe 09/13/2011
Thanks to everyone who came to A Vegan Kids Dance for Adults with Nudity in the Philly Fringe! We sold out all three shows and had people crowding in on the floor and standing in the back of the room. So much love! We're feeling energized by the performances, by the positive reception, and by the constructive feedback we're getting. So we're carrying all that with us as we dive back into choreography and move onwards towards our show at the Annenberg Center in February. Did you see our work and have some thoughts you'd like to share? Leave a comment or let us know via our contact page. We'd love to hear from you. Want to support our ongoing development, learn more about our long-term trajectory, and help make our performances possible? Please visit our Kickstarter campaign and contribute if you can. We only have a week left!http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/greenchairdancegroup/project-cone-a-dance-adventure A vegan what? 08/25/2011
The internet is starting to buzz about the crazy title of the Fringe show we're producing, "A Vegan Kids Dance for Adults with Nudity". This is the Live Arts Festival blog's post about it: http://blog.livearts-fringe.org/2011/08/23/vegans_vs_carnivores/ To structure our dance for our upcoming Philly Fringe show, we put all the bits and pieces of choreography we have on little slips of paper, then figured out what should live next to what and imagined transitions. We wrote the final (well...current...evolving...) order on this sheet, over Russell the cow/sheep, whom we find very charming. We've spent the last few days working on filling out this structure, testing where it works and where it doesn't and revising and recreating as we go. We still need an ending. Ideas? Look at this room we are dancing in! 08/13/2011
Check out this beautiful space! We are in residence for a week at Elkins Estate, through a program with White Pines Productions. This is a bit of improv around some of the ideas that are stewing this week as we continue to develop Project Cone. Yes, those ARE giant crystal chandeliers and yes there IS a huge painting covering the ceiling with clouds and cherubs and scantily clad women. My personal list of highlights for the White Pines residency so far, (by Sarah): 1. Running around barefoot on the lawn at midnight. 2. Improvising a beautiful choral song about an alligator. 3. Holding Hannah's hand and leaping around until we couldn't move from laughing too hard. 4. Making jellyfish dances, especially when Greg was being a flag. 5. The hall of mirrors in the Estate, where I especially like pretending I'm in a palace. 6. Sketching out our dance with four colors of sharpies. 7. Thinking about dance all day every day. We are here until Tuesday, making lots of dances for Project Cone and diving further in to some of the research we've been curious about in the last few months. If you want to see our experiments up close and personal, come check out our showing Monday August 15th, 7pm, at Elkins Estate: www.whitepinesproductions.org The grounds are beautiful and the dancing is fun! Green Chair's personality test. 08/11/2011
We just took the Enneagram test, in the personality of our newest dance. The test is designed to help you learn more about your self, promoting self-knowledge, personal growth, and richer relationships. Turns out, our dance is most closely identified as Type Number 7. The Enthusiast The busy, productive type. Sevens are extroverted, optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous. Playful, high-spirited, and practical, they can also misapply their many talents, becoming over-extended, scattered, and undisciplined. They constantly seek new and exciting experiences, but can become distracted and exhausted by staying on the go. They typically have problems with impatience and impulsiveness. At their Best: they focus their talents on worthwhile goals, becoming appreciative, joyous, and satisfied. Seems eerily accurate, actually. You should meet this dance. | Welcome to
